Internal Marks V/s Grade Table

Anna University conducts End Semester Examinations at the months of April/May/June and in the months of November/December/January every year for all UG/PG programmes ie., B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch/M.E/M.Tech/M.Arch and so on. Also the Affiliated Engineering colleges conducts three Internal Assessment Exams and it is rounded off for 15 marks. Attendance Marks are given out of 5. These marks are added up (15+5=20 marks) to award Internal Marks for a student out of 20.

      When Anna University publishes results for a student, the External Marks (Theory Examination written by the student out of 100 marks) is converted to 80 marks and the Internal Marks got by the student out of 20 is added to the 80 marks (so, 80+20=100 marks) and the final results are published in Letter Grades. Refer the below table :

Most of the teachers instruct the students to get atleast 14 mark as their internal marks so they can easily clear the paper. Why do they say like that? If they get below 14 marks in internal, will that student get U grade? How to use the above table??

You can see your internal marks out of 20 for all theory subjects which is available in student portal by logging in into http://coe1.annauniv.edu/ and navigating to ABSENTEES & INTERNAL MARK DETAIL tab. Know your internal mark out of 20. Compare that Internal Mark out of 20 with the above table and you can easily know how much marks out of 100 you need to get to get E grade or the desired grade you want.

YOU MUST GET 45 out of 100 in THEORY EXAMINATION TO GET PASS/E OR ANY OTHER GRADE EVEN IF YOU HAVE 20 AS YOUR INTERNAL MARK.

CASE 1 : If your internal mark is 14 and if you want to get at least E grade, then you must get 45 out of 100 in theory exam and if you want to get A grade with 14 as internal mark, then you need to get at least 84 out 100 in theory exam.

CASE 2 : If your internal mark is 08 and if you want to get at least E grade, then you must get 53 out of 100 in theory exam and if you want to get C grade with 08 as internal mark, then you need to get at least 67 out of 100 in theory exam.

CASE 3 : If your internal mark is 20 and if you want to get S grade, then you must get 89 out of 100 in theory exam and if you want to get A grade with 20 as internal mark, then you need to get at least 77 out of 100 in theory exam.It is mandatory for every student to get 45 out of 100 to get PASS in end semester examination.

  You get 50 marks out of 100 in your theory means. It will be changed to 40 out of 80.
          your internal is 95 means that is divided by 5 means you get 19 marks..
 
            Therefore 40 + 19 = 59 marks(your final mark out of 100)
 
Minimum Pass marks for both internal and External :
 
For theory exam : 45 out of 100 (if you get less than 45 even if you got 20 on internals you will be fail)
 
For internal : there is no minimum pass marks (even if you got zero you got 62marks out of 100 theory exam means you will pass)
