The Indian government and the military have been the object of one of the largest cyber attacks in the history of the country, which had been compromised after about 10 000 e-mail addresses belonging to high-ranking officials. Note that just before the break the Indian government received a warning from the National Agency for the possibility of cyber attacks.
According to the newspaper Indian Express, the attack took place on July 12 and four days before the Indian center NCIIPC (National Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Centre) warned detecting complex malicious software aimed at the targeted attacks on Indian organizations. The article in the paper indicates that data about the attack has not been formally published for reasons of national security, and in NCIIPC reported attack this week at a meeting with officials. Indian Express said that in the hands of hackers were data of emails of senior officials from the government, the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance, the intelligence agencies and the Indian National Intelligence.
In NCIIPC said the attack and theft of email-data is likely preceded by a long period of preparation, because hackers know who they are attacking and what data they need. Indian experts on IT security is not reported whether any data stolen, and if so, what is their volume. We only know that most email-data has been compromised, users of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Internal Affairs of India.
