A new ultrasound technology that allows cell phones and tablets managed using spatial gestures, may be on the market as early as next year.
The Norwegian company Elliptic Labs is in talks with Asian handset makers regarding its embedding chips in the new generation of devices. New technology works by ultrasonic chip that generates a special radiation can interpret the user's hand movements.
The company said that now there are several techniques for working with spatial gestures, but Elliptic Labs say their technology is one of the most cost-effective and simple to implement.
The Norwegian company said that the main difference between them develop their technology unlike many of the other similar is is that the user does not need to swing your arms straight in front of a smartphone - technology senses gestures from a distance of up to a meter, which greatly improves the usability.
Another advantage of the new items is that the chip has a very wide angle coverage gestures - 180 degrees. Another advantage of the product is that it can work in complete darkness and consume a minimum charging device.
In the smartphone Galaxy S4 there is an infrared sensor that can also read gestures, but it works in a very narrow range and at a short distance. Current technology for gesture recognition is not too comfortable, so long as the user needs to catch the point of work to see his smartphone.
By giving users more freedom, we are able to offer a qualitatively new devices and capabilities. On the big screen of a mobile phone or tablet is not always possible to make big accurate and sophisticated gestures.
The Norwegian companies believe that by the end of this year they will complete negotiations with any of the major manufacturers that already in 2014.
